The proposed project will examine binge drinking among young people. Binge drinking is a hazardous form of alcohol consumption especially among the young adults. Despite the fact such episodic drinking has obvious adverse consequences, most you people are too ignorant of this fact or are not wary of the impending danger. Fortunately, there are various available interventions that can be applied in reducing binge drinking among the young people (Paschall et al., 2011). The proposed study will focus on the patterns of binge use among the young people and their compact in order to formulate an intervention strategy.
This project will have various points of view from the various articles focusing on the various sides of the case. Deeper research will be accorded to the various impacts of binger drinking such as drunk driving and involvement into unsafe sex. The study will also delve into both the negative and positive impacts of binge drinking among the young people. This will be essential in the presentation of a well-rounded argument that will positively contribute in study results as well as in the formulation of a solution to the problem. A significant aspect of the research will also focus on the identification of the viewpoints and reading the literary work of scholars that have researched the topic.
Component 2: NEED AND BENEFIT
Undertaking research on this topic is essential. Binge drinking is a preventable challenge among the public that harbors serious mental and social issues (Cassin & von, 2007). The problem is highly prevalent among the youth, especially with the increase in the cases of binge drinking for recreational functions. However, they do not seem to understand the risks of their behaviour making them highly susceptible to experience many adverse effects that are caused by the use of binge. Some of the negative consequences that have been linked to binge drinking include increase in brain damage, involvement in high risk sexual activity and vulnerability to trouble with law and property damage (Couchman, 2003). Problems related to binge drinking are normally determined by the prevailing factors such as the existing policies governing the use of alcohol, environmental factors, and the demographic traits of the users.
The research will be beneficial as focus will be laid on the factors that causes the problem and the interventions that can be applied to reduce it. The research will also be able to identify the risks to binge drinking among young people for prevention. For instance, according to Wheeler (2010), some of the protective factors that have been seen to reduce the risks to binge drinking among the young people include the increased parental supervision, legal control of alcohol use in relation to age limits and creating an environment that discourage alcohol use.
One of the identified gaps in literature in the area of binge drinking among the young people is the lack of information on the exact amount of alcohol that can lead to adverse impacts on health. Also, much of the research in this field is focused on older people. In this regard, this research will seek to address these gaps through focusing on young people and identifying the amount of binge that can have negative impacts on their health.
Literature will be searched for the information regarding the topic and identify the research gap. The aim of this study is to examine the causes of binge drinking among young people, its impact and how to prevent it.
Objectives
To examine the causes and motivations to binge drinking among young people
To identify its impact on users
To find out the various strategies that can be applied to reduce it
Research questions
What are the causes and motivations to binge drinking among young people?
Does it have any impact on the users?
What are some of the strategies that can be applied in encouraging young people to refrain from engaging in binge drinking
Hypotheses
There are various causes and motivations of binge drinking among young people
There are various negative impacts of binge drinking on the users
Quantitative survey design approach will be used though the use of questionnaires with simple straightforward questions that will be easy for the participants to be engaged. As Babbie (2007) indicates, survey research is the most appropriate for social researcher with the intention of gathering the original data in a population. The study will be conducted for a period of three months in a sample of the city/town centre pubs and bars. The participants will be the customers, managers and staff. In total, 600 individuals will be interviewed, with the preferred age of the customers being targeted being young people between the age of 18 to 35. Some of the questions that managers and staff are expected to answer include their perceptions regarding binge drinking, types of drinks consumed, whether the you people often consume binge, their behaviours after consuming binge and the preventive strategies applied in dealing with the problem. For the customers, the interview questions will focus on their perceptions regarding binge drinking, the types and volumes being consumed, their view regarding binge drinking, and their experiences as well as motivations.
This research will comprise of 4 stages; literature review, development of questionnaires, survey of 600 participants and data analysis. Literature review stage will comprise of the recent relevant literature research with an intention of generating the optimum study results, opinions and views regarding the research study. This stage is relevant since it forms the basis of questionnaire development, and the refinement of the research survey and analysis methods (Berry, 2015). After the literature review, the questionnaire will be formulated which will be used to collect data from the participants. The survey process will be explained to the participants and reassure them of confidentiality. The main domains of influence that will be targeted include demographic characteristics such as religion, age and gender; individual factors such as the well-being, values and the problem behaviour, family factors such as the family structure and support; local context such as the peer influence and the availability of alcohol; and media and celebrity through the focus on various factors such as celebrities and exposure to the key media channels.

Data analysis
The purpose of conducting data analysis organize and provide meaning to the data (Burns and Grove, 2007). Data analysis will be conducted through the completion of statistical summaries such as the mean, standard deviations and frequency tables. Collected data from the questionnaires will be cleaned and analysed using statistical measures to:
Describe the data (subjects responses to survey items);
Determine if the data will be reliable (i.e., if the data demonstrated consistency in the measurements obtained);
Check for correlation between the respondents’ responses and determine their probability of acquiring services from an Islamic banking institution.
It is through this analysis that results and recommendations about the subject will be formulated.
Anticipated Outcomes
This research will facilitate the dissemination of the key findings, recommendations and conclusions throughout the health and educational professional agencies, and through the journal and conference publications related to magnet binge drinking and alcoholism among the young people. Once completed, the study will be essential in averting the cases of binge drinking among the young people and the population in general.
Since the disorders related to substance abuse affects all the life aspects, the prevention approaches should be designed in such a way that they incorporate the whole person i.e. the physical, psychological and sociological person. All this can be addressed by the use of a multidisciplinary approach that combines health specialists and the community in general. According to Martin, et al., (2006) a multidisciplinary approach is essential for various reasons, but the most important is the treatment of co-occurring disorders. In addressing the problem of binge drinking, a multidisciplinary approach consisting of addiction treatment, health promotion, behavioural health, and education (Jones, et al., 2014). Multidisciplinary programs have been seen to be crucial in addressing the problem of binge drinking. According to a review of 38 studies related to the treatment for substance abuse, more positive outcomes were achieved when the collaborative and multidisciplinary approaches were used (Ashley, et al., 2003). Understanding the psychological medical and cultural causes of binge drinking can enable the victims to prepare appropriately for the challenges and opportunities that life gives provides.
