The history of Cambodia can be traced back in the 19th century during the leadership of King Ang Duong. Centuries back, court performers rehearsed in a village prior appearing to the main stage, however, after King Ang involvement, performance was showcased to Thai courts (Banham, 1995). Highly regarded as a Buddhism nation i.e 99% with reach history of religious wrangles, Thailand was the only country in the south Asian region that evaded colonial rule. The current reign i.e Chakri Dynasty has strengthened diplomacy ties with western countries to adopt policies that would fortify collaborations .the policies facilitated foreigners quest to adopt Thailand arts traditions and modernized artistic choreography to a producer world finest composition. However, this paper will dwell on the unique artistic display of western-oral traditions collaboration in contemporary South Asian music.
Exceptional South Asians performance hails its origin from King Ang Duong era. He established round and less twitch formation by male performers and model the costumes of Thai court. The formation is still embraced to this present era i.e puppetry and mask dance by female dancers.King Bhumibol Adulyadej adoration by the citizen’s and his ability to play Saxophone triggered may youths and students to dedicate their passion in the player.
Thai music tradition is composed of a large group of performers and instrumental items. Rehearsals occur 2 hours every morning and afternoon, each session covers 2 pieces at a go to memorize whereas the modern Thai cultures presented a hybrid display foreign orchestras, the R-rated compositions that was dedicated to the king, and adoption of saxophone by millions of students in Thailand.
We can do it today.
Thailand tradition arts is fascinating because the scale partition is octave with 12 equivalent notes into seven different pitches, in between the music, spaciousness is heard. Gong-Wong Yai a large horseshoe-shaped instrumentation provides a baseline for the Melody, ”renat” a wooden xylophones,“khlui” a flute instrumentation,: “kim” a string instrument, “jka the” an instrument that resembles a crocodile and “l” double reed instrument are used by the performers. All these instruments create heterophony by borrowing the melody from Gong-Wong Yai. Western performance employs heterophony melody, however, additional melodies decorates its masterpiece to sound polyphonic. Thai traditions arts have a steady tempo tied with longer rhythmic cycles than western arts.
However, the two cultures differ in performances style, for example, in Thai, the puppet plays in artistic performance and its variation shadow is frequently considered as “classic” traditions due to prosperous history coupled with deeper meanings while the western tradition puppet theater is simply considered as children entertainments. Thailand observes and preserves dozens of forms of puppet in their songs and performances using heterophony melodies as opposed to the western culture.
Proper Background history of Cambodian oral tradition during Khmer leadership marked the beginning of the supreme display of Thailand art and performance. It started as non-dramatic dances that composed large groups of women without costumes and proper instrumentation in the 19th century to western performances that is well embedded in Thai traditions, zillion of Thailand children have emulated and composed performances using a saxophone.
