Connection between Art and Fashion
In the modern world, art and fashion are connected between different ways. Changes in fashion are experienced daily as an attempt to cope with changes that are also experienced in the art (We Wear Culture, 2017). The connection between the two is the main reason for choosing this topic. In most nations, art and fashion are normally used to show a growth and appreciation of culture. Most artists tend to connect their work with past and recent events (Fashion the Arts, 2017). Fashion designers, on the other hand, borrow ideas from different fields, one of them being the art surrounding them (Fashion the Arts, 2017).
Personally, I was interested in this topic due to its rate of growth. Dress and culture is a subject that seems to change daily in that new fashion designs are invented daily. Fashion is sometimes described as part of the art. The relationship between this topic and dress and culture is that most of the ideas that are found in the art are borrowed from culture. Such culture may be from different communities (Prown, 1993). Though I was aware of some of this information, most of it was new to me. The fact that fashion is considered as part of art was the most attractive information about this topic. After going through the topic, I had some of the following questions;
- What influence does art have on the rate of growth of fashion?
- How can one differentiate between art and fashion in a dress?
- Are there communities where art and fashion are not related in any way?
- How powerful can the combination of art and fashion be in a dress?
Art Evolution: Tokyo Street Style
This topic focuses on the evolution of art in different regions. The community that is mainly focused on this discussion is Tokyo. In the past three decades, the development of art in this region has been based on peoples’ expressions (We Wear Culture, 2017). A group of individuals have been consulting people from the community on their ideas about art, their expectations as well as different kinds of information such as sports, music and fashion. This information has been used to introduce the developments that have been experienced in the region (Tokyo Street Fashion and Culture, 1980-2017).
The information from this topic has been of much interest to me since it shows how a group of people contributes to the growth of their culture. This growth represents the expectations of the entire community and it’s, therefore, a representation of what they have in mind (Ellmeier, 2003). The fact that this development of art in Tokyo has been present for the past three decades makes the topic more interesting. The relationship between this topic and the subject of dress and culture is that the topic shows how this subject has been represented in this community for a long period. The growth of both dress and culture in this region has been promoted by all individuals in the region of Tokyo (Tokyo Street Fashion and Culture, 1980-2017).
This information was entirely new to me. The fact that the ideas and expectations of individuals in a community can be adapted to develop a subject such as dress and culture was impressive to me. At the end of the topic, the following questions emerged;
- What’s the outcome if the ideas and expectations of the people in such a region are different?
- How are the ideas of all individuals represented in the practice of art in this region?
- Apart from peoples’ ideas, are there other contributing factors to the development of art?
- Are there other regions apart from Tokyo that use peoples’ ideas to develop their art?
