Change leadership is the skill of influencing and motivating others using individual support, passion, and vision, as well as through resource accessibility to forge a stable stage for change (Higgs & Rowland, 2000). The concept helps in solving the demographic and industrial trends and emerging problems.
Findings
One of such problems is the rising environmental concern in New York City that involves the management of the extremely large population in the city (Excoffier, Laval, & Schneider, 2005). The growing population in the city has brought about hygiene related issues, for instance, the incidence of asthma and other respiratory problems over the years among the residents (Corburn, Osleeb, & Porter, 2006). Additionally, the city is responsible for producing one percent of the total greenhouse gases generated in the country, with a population of 2.7 percent of the whole nation. It is imperative to note that New York City has been focusing on addressing such environmental concerns plaguing it.
Conclusion and Recommendation
The concept of change leadership comes into play when dealing with viable solutions to rescue the city. It is crucial that the city managers purchase only equipment that is energy efficient for use in the offices and public houses in the city (DePalma, 2005). Nonetheless, the environmental groups are also required to lobby for legislative changes that would be strategic in promoting a positive influence on the environment and consequently reducing the emerging demographic trends (Smith & Kurtz, 2003). Therefore, should the influx into New York City be regulated as a measure of controlling the environmental impacts?
